Neuroprotective Developmental Care
Growing joy in early life!
Growing joy in early life!

Neuroprotective Developmental Care (NDC), also known as 'the Possums programs', aims to protect the rapidly developing infant brain and gut during the critical first 12 months of life, starting antenatally, and supports parents' mental health and psychological resilience during this challenging though rewarding time.

Possums - baby's health, mother's health, feeds, sensory, sleepNDC is delivered by NDC accredited health professionals, of whom there is a growing number offering services in Australia - click here to find someone qualified in NDC near you! We are proud that more than 1000 health professionals have completed basic Possums certification, which introduces our evidence-base, but only NDC accredited practitioners have built on their certification to qualify in specialised NDC clinical skills - through participation in Masterclasses, regular NDC network case discussions, clinical observation, access to our extensive Resource Hub and materials, and then passing the NDC assessment process.

Unlike other approaches to early life care, NDC uniquely acknowledges the interrelatedness of breastfeeding and infant feeding, sleep, baby's sensory-motor and social needs, cry-fuss behaviours, and parental mood, offering innovative, state-of-the-art support in each domain. Our uniquely holistic approach is built upon peer-reviewed and published theoretical foundations, developed from over 15 years of interdisciplinary research collaborations. By consulting with NDC accredited health professionals, parents avoid fragmentation of care and conflicting advice.

"The Possums Clinic" and "Possums Education" are business names owned exclusively by our non-profit organisation and registered charity, Possums for Mothers and Babies Ltd (ACN 162 221 892).

Please note: an NDC accredited practitioner is able to show you his or her NDC accreditation logo. We do not consent to use of the term 'Possums practitioner' because this term misleads parents concerning level of training.
